Senate President David Mark has described the Super Eagles of Nigeria as “worthy and dependable Ambassadors” for doing the nation proud in the on-going championship in South Africa otherwise called CHAN 214.
Senator Mark noted that the Nigerian representatives lived up to their billings in the encounter with the Atlas Lions of Morocco today.
He told the Stephen Keshi/tutored boys not to leave anything to chance in the campaign to win the trophy for the nation.
“Coming from behind ( three goals down) to beat your Moroccan counterpart is proof of your professionalism and determination . This is miraculous. I am proud of you. The nation is proud of you.
“ I earnestly assure you that your labour would not be in vain. Nigeria will reward you handsomely”.
Also, Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu described the victory as the “comeback of the two decades.”
Senator Ekweremadu who however faulted the lacklustre spirit exhibited by the team in the first half, especially in the defence line, commended the Eagles for showing enormous character and determination in the second half and extra time of the game.
“The Super Eagles have just rekindled reminiscences of the Damman miracle at the 1989 FIFA World Youth Championship in which Nigeria upturned a four goal deficit to win the defunct Soviet Union in a breathtaking quarter final encounter.”
