Since it hit the airwaves close to a year ago, Television Continental, TVC, a 24-hour pan-African News Channel, has reached great milestones in news coverage across Africa and the globe.
Celestine Umeibe, Manager, Public Relations, TVC, said the station has been able to correct the erroneous belief that the African continent is the only one without a current affairs channel and self-produced news.
“TVC News proved to be the voice of Africa on the global scene. With excellent news reportage, reliable and accurate information about Africa, the pan-African news channel has succeeded in breaking the dominance previously enjoyed by foreign news channels reporting African stories,” Umeibe said.
With a mission to challenge stereotypes and correct factual inaccuracies about Africa and its people, TVC, according to Umeibe, has remained objective with its news about the continent, reporting fearlessly and through the African eyes.
These milestones, he stated, have earned the station several international recognitions. One of such was when the International Center for Journalists, ICFJ, Washington D.C gave an award to the station for a report titled: “Failure to eradicate polio in Nigeria.” It also got commendations at the 2013 annual awards of the Association for International Broadcasting, AIB, for a report titled: 'The Accused' in the Investigative Documentary category.
Other notable news coverage by the station, according to a statement signed by Umeibe, includes the 2013 elections in Ghana, Kenya, Mali and Zimbabwe, the African Union's 50th anniversary celebrations in Addis Ababa, the civil unrests in Egypt and Tunisia, the conflicts in the Central African Republic and Mali, the Nairobi shopping Mall siege and the insurgency in Nigeria among others.
“TVC News has come a long way in a short time and will remain committed to providing reliable, accurate and up-to-date news about Africa,” Nigel Parsons, TVC News Chief Executive Officer said.
